Some guidelines
- Avoid plastic bags, use bags in fabric instead
- Favour local vegetables and fruits
- Collect plastic, metallic and paperboard wastes
- Use detergents moderately for the laundry (bed sheets and towels are not changed everyday)

The waste issue
Rice field, temple backyard, sidewalk, water canal, river or beach is often cluttered by organic, paper and plastic wastes. The waste management is a real issue on the Island. Most Balinese in the countryside still burn non recyclable waste at the back of their gardens or along the streets because there is no municipal waste transportation, releasing unfortunately some toxic pollutants from plastic into the atmosphere. Part of the valuable waste - cans, plastic bottles, metal and paper - is though collected by scavengers, who sell it for recycling.
